Roman and American Slavery Module

I have been teaching a module on Roman and American Slavery since 2006 at the School of Archaeology and Ancient History in the University of Leicester. The idea of this module was to be fully comparative. So, the students are divided in two groups, studying either the Roman or the American component. They come to class with their reviews of books, articles and historical sources. After they present their material, the interesting part starts: the discussion. The class is trying to find comparative points between the two slave systems and build theoretical models. The results have been astonishing! Publishable ideas emerge almost every week! Some of these ideas may even be presented here, if I feel generous enough!
